Andrew Wong is Professor of Anthropology at California State University, East Bay. His research focuses on the ways in which ideologies materialize in and through language. His current project explores how linguistic differences between Hongkongers and mainlanders have become magnified and ideologized in the post-1997 era. His publications have appeared in Language in Society, Journal of Sociolinguistics, Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, Pragmatics, and Language & Communication. He is co-editor of of a special issue of Language & Communication entitled "Chineseness on the Margins" (2021) (with Mie Hiramoto and Hsi-Yao Su).
