Dr Birgul Yilmaz is a Senior Lecturer in Intercultural Communication at the University of Exeter in the UK. She is a critical sociolinguist, applied linguist and ethnographer, specialising in language and forced migration. Her research interests are:
1) Sociolinguistics of forced migration and humanitarianism
2) Heritage language learning and teaching: identity, conflict and diaspora communities
3) Critical sociolinguistics, ethnography and linguistic practice
4) Language, vulnerability and trauma in humanitarian settings
