John C Maher is an Emeritus Professor of Linguistics inTokyo, formerly Senior Academic Member of St Antony’s College, Oxford. He specializes in multilingualism and is founding member of the Japan Association of the Sociolinguistics. Recent books include 'Multilingualism' (2019) and 'Metroethnicity, Naming and Mocknolect: New Horizons in Japanese Sociolinguistics' (2021), 'Language Communities in Japan' (2022) and 'Coronaspeak' (2023).
